27 December 2022 is a Public Holiday

To all of our customers, please take note of the following announcement and make arrangements where and if necessary.

President Ramaphosa has declared Tuesday, 27 December 2022, as a public holiday because of Christmas Day falling on a Sunday. Paid public holidays do not form part of an employee’s Annual Leave allocation.

Christmas Day, 25 December, falls on a Sunday, and in terms of the Public Holidays Act, whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be a holiday. That Monday, the Day of Goodwill, is also a public holiday.

If the public holiday of Sunday 25 December were to be moved to Monday 26 December, this would cancel the holiday of 26 December or cause the two holidays, which are part of 12 paid holidays annually, to overlap.

Please read this article by Bowman’s Law on how this will affect your employee renumeration.
